Wax is one of those things that make your heart sink to your feet when you see it spill.
It may look like an impossible mess to get out of carpeting, so you may just want to call a professional carpet cleaner to take care of the situation for you.
Or, there are some things you can try first when accidents happen.
Start the process by chipping off as much of the dried wax as possible. If the accident is fresh and there is some wax still wet, wipe it up instantly. Most will be dried even for a fresh accident, since wax dries so quickly.
Take a butter knife or similar object and try to get as much of the hardened wax off as possible. The wax may chip or turn to very tiny pieces while you do this and that is fine as well.
After you have removed as much hardened wax as possible with your hands, it is time to sweep over the area with a vacuum. This will pick up the tiny pieces of wax that fall apart while you were cleaning up the hardened wax.
To get the remaining wax from the fibers of your carpet you will need to heat it and turn it back to a liquid state.
You can do this by placing a paper towel or cloth over the wax and running an iron over top of it on low heat setting. If you don’t have a cloth or paper towel, it is possible to use a paper bag as well.
As the wax heats up it should catch onto the cloth or paper towel so you can lift it off the carpeting. A big mess can be remedied just that simple!
The only downside to this method of removing wax from carpeting is that stains could be left behind. Colored wax may leave behind coloring on the fibers of the carpeting and it may take the services of a professional cleaner to get the stain out.
